Children's Health Care Coverage Fact Sheets

One of the Academy's top advocacy priorities is ensuring children have access to high-quality, affordable health care that meets their unique needs.

The expandable list below includes state fact sheets, highlighting how Medicaid, the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and Affordable Care Act (ACA) protections work to support and improve children's health.

AAP members are encouraged to use these documents as advocacy tools to explain the importance of these programs, such as during meetings with legislators, when drafting an opinion piece to a newspaper or preparing for a presentation:

• Medicaid Fact Sheets, 2025: Explains the importance of Medicaid for children in each state (in partnership with the Georgetown University Policy Institute Center for Children and Families)
• EPSDT State Profiles, 2018: Provides detailed information on each state Medicaid program's Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnosis and Treatment (EPSDT) benefit and how this compares to AAP/Bright Futures guidelines and recommendations (supported by the Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB), Health Resources and Services Administration). Each state profile compares the state’s 2018 Medicaid EPSDT benefit with the Bright Futures: Guidelines for Health Supervision of Infants, Children, and Adolescents, 4th Edition, and the Bright Futures/AAP Recommendations for Preventive Pediatric Health Care (Periodicity Schedule) published in Pediatrics in April 2017.
