Revaluation

After the Evaluation and Management (E/M) Workgroup’s revised recommendations on MDM and time were approved by the February 2019 CPT Editorial Panel, it was then required to be sent to the April 2019 Resource-Based Relative Value Update Committee (RUC). The RUC was charged with surveying the new code descriptors for valuation during this meeting. The AAP participated in the RUC survey as part of a 50-specialty society coalition, sending surveys to a randomly selected sample of 5,000 members. Steven Krug, MD, FAAP, AAP RUC Advisor, was one of the RUC presenters for the multispecialty coalition valuation recommendations. The chart below highlights the changes from the current “work” relative value unit (RVU) to the 2021 “work” RVU.
