The goal of this ECHO was to build the capacity of primary care providers who live in or serve rural and frontier communities to address obesity in pediatric patients in their communities.

- Describe the pathophysiology of obesity as an inflammatory state
- Appreciate clinical obesity treatment implications under more current models of energy homeostasis
- Apply the bio-socioecological model of obesity to a phenotypic characterization of patient assessment.
Addressing Bias and Stigma: It’s not their fault!
Participants will be able to:
- Understand the sources of weight bias and stigma
- Understand the impact of weight bias on patients and their families
- Identify strategies to address bias and stigma with patients, staff, and self

Assessment and Evaluation
Participants will be able to discuss assessment of a child or adolescent with obesity:
- Family and Medical History

Treatment in the Real World
Parent will be able to:
- Review IHCW resources to support treatment in primary care.
- Provide practical examples of how to implement in rural primary care settings
- Offer ways to connect to leverage resources at the local and state level
Treatment & Follow up
Participants will be able to:
- Discuss treatment options for pediatric and adolescent obesity
- Understand anti-obesity medications options
- Understand metabolic bariatric surgery options
Managing Comorbidities
Participants will be able to:
- Understand the appropriate workup of the most common comorbidities associated with obesity.
- Be familiar with treatment of obesity comorbidities
- Be prepared to co-manage obesity comorbidities with pediatric specialists.
Practical Tools and Resources
Participants will be able to:
- Share patient facing tools and handouts that can be used in clinical practice.
- Share a toolkit that can help to improve confidence in providing delivered lifestyle counseling in a rural pediatric setting.
- Share resources to sharpen your tools and to learn more about obesity medicine.
