The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is recruiting experienced neonatologists, neonatal nurses, and pediatric surgeons to become survey team members. The AAP NICU Verification Program upholds the AAP Statement on Diversity and Inclusion and encourages individuals of diverse backgrounds and perspectives to apply for surveyor appointments.
Neonatal surveyor appointments are made based on knowledge, expertise, and experience and will receive training from experienced neonatal surveyors and AAP leadership to ensure a high quality and reliable program. All interested applicants should complete a Surveyor Interest Form. Successful neonatal surveyors will meet the following requirements:
Neonatologists
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO).
- American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) sub-board certified in neonatal-perinatal medicine.
- At least seven years of related clinical experience in neonatal-perinatal medicine post-fellowship.
- Currently employed/practicing in the coordination of care for neonatal patients, or 3 years post-clinically practicing.
- Current membership in the AAP and the Section on Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine (SONPM).
- Current participation in the ABP Maintenance of Certification program.
- NICU leadership experience and previous experience in program evaluation are highly preferred.
Neonatal Nurses
- Master’s degree, Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred.
- Licensed as a registered nurse or advanced practice nurse.
- At least seven years of related neonatal clinical experience.
- Currently employed/practicing in the coordination of care for neonatal patients, or 3 years post-clinically practicing.
- Current membership in the National Association of Neonatal Nurses (NANN)
- Current certification by the National Certification Corporation (NCC) or American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN)
- Nursing leadership experience and previous experience in program evaluation are highly preferred.
Pediatric Surgeons
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO).
- American Board of Surgery (ABS) sub-board certified in pediatric surgery.
- At least seven years of related clinical experience in neonatal-perinatal medicine post-fellowship.
- Currently employed/practicing in the coordination of care for neonatal surgical patients, or 3 years post-clinically practicing.
- Current AAP membership.
- Current participation in the ABS Continuous Certification Program.
- Pediatrics surgery leadership experience and previous experience in program evaluation are highly preferred.
