The AAP NICU Verification Program aims to elevate the quality of neonatal care by utilizing experienced and credentialed neonatologists, neonatal nurses, and pediatric surgeons to provide an objective, collaborative, and consultative review of neonatal care.
NICU Verification Program Overview
In 2016, the AAP NICU Verification Program was launched as an approved third-party survey agency for neonatal levels of care in the state of Texas. Currently, the AAP NICU Verification Program continues to survey neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) in Texas and is an approved survey agency for the states of Georgia and Missouri. The NICU Verification Program is expanding to provide consultation and verification to NICUs across the country. The program reviews neonatal facilities to verify whether they meet the standards for a specific level of neonatal care. The AAP is the leading authority in neonatal verification, having developed the standards for each level of care as outlined in the AAP policy statement “Levels of Neonatal Care”, the AAP book, Guidelines for Perinatal Care and the "Standards for Levels of Neonatal Care: II, III, & IV".
