Mental Health Chapter Action Kit: Educate Chapter Members

​Facilitate the sharing of effective models of integration with mental health professionals. For example, pediatric practices have had success with employing, co-locating with, and collaborating with social workers, psychologists, and nurse practitioners with specialized training to provide mental health services for children. Successful experiences could be shared at chapter meetings and through other dissemination mechanisms.

​Develop a speaker’s bureau and write an article and/or other informational strategy on successful integrated practice models and collaborations between primary care and mental health professionals.

​Use AAP resources such as the coding tips on attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder in chapter newsletters.

Offer quality improvement activities to pediatricians on implementation of mental health office processes (social-emotional screening, engaging families, common factors approach, referral, co-management, integration of mental health professionals and other Mental Health Toolkit components) in practice.

​Utilize AAP advocacy training modules to train new chapter members to become advocates for policy and systems changes that improve access to mental health services.

Hold a workshop for continuity clinic preceptors from local residency programs. Introduce the Mental Health Residency Curriculum to build their self-efficacy in addressing mental health with residents. Provide a virtual network so these preceptors may obtain technical assistance.
