Expanding Trauma-informed Care, Countering Internalized Racism – Episode 168

Dr. Khadijia Tribié Reid is a mother, pediatrician, and public health advocate. She is a physician leader who builds systems to optimize the health of all children. She is the Pediatric Medical Director of MedNorth Health Center, a Federally Qualified Health Center in Wilmington, NC.  In January 2022, she became the Chair of Novant New Hanover Regional Medical Center’s Department of Pediatrics. Beyond medicine, one of Dr. Tribié Reid’s greatest passions is Early Childhood Education. She initiated one of the first Reach Out and Read sites in her county at MedNorth. She is honored to serve as the governor’s appointee on the board of the North Carolina Partnership for Children, an Early Childhood Education non-profit. In 2021, Dr. Tribié Reid was also appointed to the founding board of the New Hanover Community Endowment. Dr. Tribié Reid is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics’ Expert Leadership Team on Trauma Informed Care.  

Dr. Antwon Chavis is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Oregon Health and Science University, where he enjoys seeing patients and pursuing opportunities for community engagement and resident/medical student education. He provides lectures and has published manuscripts on topics including: dermatologic findings specific to pigmented and melanin-rich skin, guidance for residents on incorporating discussions about race, diversity and equity into their well-child anticipatory guidance, education around the racial and anti-Black history of Oregon, and paternal perinatal depression in new fathers.
