Video series on YouTube to address most common questions parents ask pediatricians about their children’s vaccinations – and offer tips on finding correct information online
ITASCA, IL (Feb 14, 2022) – To help parents find accurate, trustworthy content about their children’s immunizations, the American Academy of Pediatrics is launching a new series of videos that answer some of the most common questions parents have about vaccines.
The videos combine the credibility of the AAP, the science of vaccines, and the warmth and empathy of pediatricians to help parents feel empowered with the information they need to make decisions about their child’s immunizations.
“We know parents have questions about immunizations. Your child’s pediatrician is a great resource for those answers, but we know many times these questions come up when you are not in the exam room. This new collection helps expand the ways AAP is reaching parents with information about their children’s health -- wherever they happen to be,” said AAP President Moira Szilagyi, MD, PhD, FAAP.
The first video in the series, launched today on the Academy’s YouTube channel, features Edith Bracho-Sanchez, MD, FAAP, discussing the childhood immunization schedule, including why each vaccine is recommended at specific ages.
Other videos that will be published in February and March include a video with Rebekah Fenton, MD, FAAP, who walks through the vaccines recommended for pre-teens and teens, and a video by pediatrician Whitney Casares, MD, FAAP, who shares how disinformation about vaccines often spreads online, and how parents can find accurate information. Anita Chandra, MD, FAAP, and other pediatricians are also featured in videos answering the top questions parents commonly ask, such as about the safety of vaccines, vaccine ingredients, side effects, and the diseases they help prevent.
