Sections

AAP Sections are groups comprised of members who are interested in and/or trained in a pediatric subspecialty, a pediatric surgical specialty, or a multidisciplinary area. The membership in sections constitutes a valuable reservoir of subspecialty expertise to be drawn upon for guidance in the development of Academy policy statements and practice standards and for representing the AAP to other organizations.

Committees

Twenty-seven national committees develop many of the AAP policies and programs.  Under the direction of the Board of Directors, and with the assistance of the Central Office, they work to achieve the Academy goals and objectives.  The Committee Forum Management Committee (CoFMC) oversees the activities of the AAP committees and acts in a consulting capacity to the Board of Directors.  The Committee Forum (CoF) is comprised of the chairpersons from all national committees.  It serves as a forum for discussion of policy development issues. All national committees are appointed by the Board of Directors.  Appointments are based on member expertise; if all equal, then appointments are based on interest, gender, ethnicity, district representation, and chapter activity.
