Welcome to the Section on Medicine & Pediatrics (Med-Peds). As a Section, we have been busy organizing and advocating for Med-Peds physicians since 1997. Currently the Section has over 3,500 members. The Section strives to be the home for physicians trained in treating adults and children. We have a strong relationship with the National Med-Peds Residents Association (NMPRA) and the Medicine Pediatrics Program Directors Association (MPPDA) to help ensure a strong pipeline and a united voice on activities, research, advocacy and education that is important to Med-Peds physicians.

Mission Statement

The American Academy of Pediatrics Section on combined internal medicine and pediatrics (Med-Peds) is dedicated to promoting and enhancing the practice of physicians trained in both specialties. The Section on Med-Peds is committed to advocacy, education, improving communication, and research related to the practice and training of physicians in combined internal medicine and pediatrics.

Updating membership on MOC changes and the Pediatric Hospital Medicine Fellowship Given the pace of change of Maintenance of Certification (MOC) with the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) and American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM), we have used all our communications outlets to update the membership as these occur.

The Section on Med-Peds is supporting the work of POPCoRN. The Pediatric Overflow Planning Contingency Response Network is a multi-institutional collaboration which states that its mission is to “coordinate a national response that aims to increase capacity to care for adult patients in pediatric facilities through information dissemination, education, and shared community.” POPCoRN was started by several Med-Peds physicians to assist institutions and individuals to safely care for adults with COVID-19.

SOMP provides educational programming at the American College of Physician’s (ACP) Annual Meeting.

Section on Med-Peds is one of the largest sections in the AAP with over 3,500 members.

The SOMP will hold the following event during the 2024 AAP National Conference:
