The COEHCC is the home for Academy members interested in and concerned about children’s environmental health, toxic exposures, climate change, and environmental justice. Our key activities include:

  • Advising the AAP Board of Directors on issues pertaining to environmental health, toxic exposure, climate change, and environmental justice. Council-authored policy statements address issues such as air pollution, climate change, lead screening, pesticides, and radiation disasters.
  • Supporting legislative initiatives designed to protect the health of the fetus, infant, child, and adolescent from environmental hazards, and to advance health equity by addressing environmental disparities.
  • Developing educational initiatives related to children's environmental health, climate change, and environmental justice.
  • Publishing the Academy’s landmark Pediatric Environmental Health manual, currently in its fourth edition.

If you are concerned about children’s environmental health issues, climate change, and environmental health equity, and are interested in educating your fellow pediatricians, public health officials, policy makers, and parents about these issues, then we would love to have you be part of the COEHCC community! We welcome members from a diversity of pediatric specialties, as we appreciate that environmental health is relevant to all aspects of child health.

Your membership in the COEHCC is valuable, as it helps raise the visibility for environmental health and justice concerns within our organization; demonstrates that environmental health issues, climate change, and environmental justice matter to you as a pediatrician and as a member of the AAP; and underscores the importance of these issues to the children in your care. Your participation strengthens the impact of our advocacy for a healthy environment for all children.

COEHCC annual membership dues directly support the efforts of the council to educate, advocate, and promote environmental health, environmental equity, and climate action on behalf of children. The Academy is one of the most respected voices for children’s health and well-being. We hope you’ll consider adding your voice to AAP’s environmental health advocacy and education as a member of the COEHCC.

Sincerely,

Council on Environmental Health and Climate Change Executive Committee
