Description and Learning Objectives

Description

This course builds on the PediaLink course, Caring for Children and Adolescents with Tourette Syndrome, and is designed to provide clinicians with practical tips, knowledge, and resources to effectively diagnose Tourette Syndrome earlier and connect families/caregivers to needed supports and services.

The course will discuss opportunities to reduce disparities in early identification and access to care. Learners will be able to differentiate between other related tic conditions (compulsions, stereotypies, and other functional motor conditions), functional tic-like behaviors, and co-occurring conditions. This course will increase clinical care competence surrounding Tourette Syndrome and co-occurring conditions, thereby supporting efforts to improve patient outcomes.

Learning Objectives:

Discuss opportunities to reduce disparities in early identification of Tourette syndrome and referral to needed services and other specialists.
Distinguish tics from functional tic-like behaviors and motor function conditions (such as stereotypies and compulsions).
Describe strategies to provide appropriate supports and services, including school services, earlier for children/youth diagnosed with Tourette syndrome and co-occurring conditions.

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

This program is accredited for 1.00 NAPNAP CE contact hours of which 1.00 contain pharmacology (Rx) content, (1.00 related to psychopharmacology) (1.00 related to controlled substances), per the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP) Continuing Education Guidelines. The AAP is designated as Agency #A17. Upon completion of the program, each participant desiring NAPNAP contact hours must send a completed certificate of attendance to ce@napnap.org. Payment of $15 for NAPNAP members and nonmembers is required via credit card for all NAPNAP contact hour requests. Keep this certificate for your records for six (6) years. Requests for duplicate certificates should be made to the AAP.
