Description

This virtual course is designed to support pediatricians and other health care providers with practical knowledge and resources to better identify, diagnose, and manage anxiety and anxiety disorders within their patient population. Participants will be able to differentiate between anxiety and anxiety disorders and learn strategies to effectively manage mild-to-moderate anxiety and how to co-manage patients with more severe conditions and/or common co-occurring conditions. Through this course, pediatricians and other pediatric health care providers will increase confidence to promote social-emotional health and further support families of children living with anxiety and anxiety disorders.

Learning Objectives:
​After participating in this session, attendees should be able to:

  • Describe anxiety prevalence, diagnostic criteria, and assessment tools.
  • Identify and describe common conditions that co-occur or may have similar symptoms with anxiety including ADHD and trauma.
  • Describe strategies to promote social-emotional health and address subclinical anxiety in pediatric settings.
  • Identify and describe the range of effective intervention and treatment for anxiety and anxiety disorders.
  • Explain the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in diagnosing, treating, and co-managing anxiety disorders.

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

This program is accredited for 1.00 NAPNAP CE contact hours of which 0.00 contain pharmacology (Rx) content, (0.00 related to psychopharmacology) (0.00 related to controlled substances), per the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP) Continuing Education Guidelines. The AAP is designated as Agency #A17. Upon completion of the program, each participant desiring NAPNAP contact hours must send a completed certificate of attendance to ce@napnap.org.
