Description

Obesity is a chronic disease with significant adverse health consequences. Evidence suggests that appropriate nutrition beginning at birth can play a critical role in reducing the risk for obesity in early childhood. Primary care pediatricians are believed to have a critical role in helping to address these issues, but may not be aware of how best to counsel patients.

This course is designed to support pediatricians in improving care relevant to responsive relationships, supportive environments, early nutrition and obesity prevention for children within the first 2 years of life.

This activity consists of 2 separate modules:

Module 1: Healthy and Supportive Environments

Module 2: Overview and Sound Nutrition

After participating in this activity, learners will be able to:

  • Recognize the importance of the first 2 years of life in the adoption and development of healthy active living.
  • Identify key protective behaviors that are associated with positive health outcomes.
  • Understand the value and role pediatricians and pediatric health care providers can play in supporting the adoption of healthy feeding, activity and routines.
