About Us

The American Academy of Pediatrics India Giani Fund, came into existence over 10 years ago when like-minded US pediatricians of Asian origin, explored the idea of helping the subspecialty training in pediatrics in India, starting with neonatology because of the  country's excessively high Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) of 50/1000 live births (range 10-90 per 1000 live births).

The Fund is part of the Friends of Children Fund of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). Donations are received by this fund in the name of India Giani Fund at the AAP Headquarters. The fund's name  Giani, means the enlightened or knowledgeable.

Goals for Scholars

For the past 5 years, the India Giani Fund has supported the attendance of Indian pediatricians practicing neonatology in India to the: Pediatric Academic Societies (PAS) conference in the spring or to the Hot Topics in Neonatology in December.

  • Observe care to extremely low birth weight (ELBW) and very sick newborns
  • Learn complex neonatal procedures that save lives and are cost effective
  • Discuss collaborative research with peers in the NICU or at conferences
  • Presentation of original research at the international conferences

Donations

Donations have been raised from physicians of Indian origin, mainly neonatologists and pediatricians who are settled in USA. These donations include in-kind gifts from eminent colleagues who are university-based teaching faculty, who host visiting Indian scholars.
