Department of Information Technology
The Department of Information Technology provides services related to information technology to AAP staff. This department’s responsibilities include maintaining a stable electronic work environment; collaborating with other staff to use information technology to better serve the Academy’s constituents (eg, chapters, members, and the public); identifying emerging technologies to meet the Academy’s changing needs; protecting the Academy’s investment in technology; and providing training to staff on the proper use of software programs and equipment.

The Division of Internet Services maintains the www.aap.org Web site as the premier site for child health care. Staff works with other staff to keep information on the Web site current and accurate and use Web technology to improve communications with members and other constituents. This division assists staff members in using Internet technologies to enhance their programs (eg, on-line CME and virtual trade shows). Internet Services also maintains the Academy’s LISTSERV e-mail list system.

The Division of Computer Support & Programming provides training and help desk support for all office application programs used by the Academy; perform timely and secured backup of all data bases and relevant data files on servers; procure and manage all computer hardware and software assets of the Academy; and provides general computer services such as high volume printing, scheduling of batch process, and programming to all staff members. Staff develops and maintains special computer programs for needs not met by the core business system.

The Division of Network Services maintains and supports a reliable, stable, and virus-free network environment. Staff maintains network security through the administration of network, directories, files, and Internet access management. Staff administers and maintains the Wide Area Network (WAN) with the Washington DC office and the Internet. This division’s responsibilities include setting up and maintaining the network for onsite registration during Spring and Annual meetings; administering and maintaining the e-mail and LISTSERV services; and maintaining a reliable and secured network wiring topology and network backup system.
