COMMITTEE ON STATE GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS

The Committee on State Government Affairs coordinates all state legislative and regulatory issues of pediatric concern and recommends to the Board of Directors the priority of state issues based on their political feasibility and value to children. It assists chapters with the development of their state legislative committees and activities. The Committee also develops appropriate strategies for state legislative issues and reviews model legislation and background materials. Issues currently being addressed include increasing access to care; monitoring Medicaid managed care programs; promoting child safety (eg, regulation of guns, swimming pools, and requiring bicycle helmets); establishing statewide emergency medical services for children; repealing religious exemptions; mandating child death investigations and review teams; monitoring initiatives to increase the pediatric workforce; and mandating appropriate insurance coverage for newborn care.
