Welcome to the American Academy of Pediatrics website for residents and fellows-in-training! This site is one of the primary means of communication between the AAP Section on Residents and it's more than 10,000 members. I see this site as a tool to help each member learn how the AAP can serve as a professional home as your career in pediatrics unfolds.
The website is set up to highlight opportunities for involvement / leadership, advocacy, financial support / recognition, learning tools, and *soon* networking with other residents across the country.
The Section on Residents leadership made up of ten district coordinators and 10 assistant district coordinators elected each year (to find yours, click here), residency program delegates (do you know who yours is?), and liaisons to more than 20 other sections within (and organizations outside) the AAP.
The Section on Residents focuses on a common advocacy topic – for 2007-2008, we are focusing on mental health care. We also encourage you to do your part for kids at a national level by signing up for Federal Advocacy Action Network updates (about 4 each year). We know you may have your own advocacy interests, and the AAP would like to support you in those with CATCH grants, Dyson Awards and more!
During residency you may recognize the learning opportunities of PREP and Pediatrics in Review, and there are even more resources online through PediaLink. (The AAP has made improving this resource a priority for the upcoming year, thanks to feedback from users like you.) Real-time educational opportunities take place every year at the AAP National Convention and Exhibition (NCE). The 2008 NCE will be in Boston – I would love to see as many of you as possible there for the Resident Section Annual Assembly Saturday, October 11!
I hope you find what you need ask you peruse the YoungPeds Network and the AAP website. If you would like to ask questions, provide feedback, or learn how to get more involved, feel free to email me. Thanks for stopping by!
Thanks again,
