Community Pediatrics Education & Training Special Interest Group

 

 

The Pediatric Education in Community and Office Settings (Starter Kit for Community Preceptors) is now available online. Please visit the COCP Publications page for information about how to download the Starter Kit.


PURPOSE:
The purpose of the Community Pediatrics Education & Training Special Interest Group (CPET SIG) is to bring together academic faculty, practicing pediatricians, and community organizations to focus on the training of medical students and pediatric residents through community-based educational experiences.

MEMBERSHIP: 111

GOALS:
1) To develop educational programs/resources to support:

  • pediatricians in training residents and medical students in community and office settings including providing faculty development materials and activities;
  • full-time and community faculty in teaching the principles of community pediatrics to residents and medical students in academic programs;
  • residents in connecting with practicing pediatricians and community organizations to maximize experiential learning opportunities.

Activities include annual educational session proposal development, resource and tool development, outreach to new constituents, participation in mentorship program, and listserv activities.

2) Develop collaborative relationship with Ambulatory Pediatric Association (APA) regarding the education and training of residents and medical students.

How to Join:
If you are already a member of the Council on Community Pediatrics and would like to join the CPET SIG, please send an email with you full name, email address, and AAP member ID number to cocp@aap.org requesting that you be added to the CPET SIG.

To join the Community Pediatrics Education & Training SIG you must be a member of the Council on Community Pediatrics. If you are already a member of the AAP and would like to become a COCP member, join online by:
1. Go to http://www.aap.org/moc/indexEntry.cfm and login with your AAP ID and password.
2. Click on "Member Community".
3. Click on "Join a Section or Council" under Section, Council & Committee
Information.
4. Choose "Council on Community Pediatrics", answer a few questions, and click "Submit".
