Member Benefits


All members and affiliate members of the Council receive the following Council benefits:

  • The biannual Council on Community Pediatrics Newsletter, CQ newsletter, and other council correspondence.
  • Networking opportunities through participation in Council electronic mailing lists, Special Interest Group activities, the Mentorship and Technical Assistance Program, the council business meeting; and member-to-member contact at chapter, district, or national meetings.
  • Resources to operationalize the concepts and recommendations in "The Pediatrician's Role in Community Pediatrics" policy statement, including helping members use community data to improve health policy.
  • An annual roster of council members and affiliate members.
  • Access to AAP staff and members who can help answer questions and provide additional information on Academy activities.
  • Opportunities to participate in educational program development, consultation, and technical assistance.
  • Access to the Council web page on the AAP Member Center.

Affiliate members receive the following Academy benefits:

  • Access to AAP meetings at member rates.
  • The option to purchase a wide range of professional publications and patient education materials at significantly discounted rates.
  • A subscription to AAP News, a monthly newspaper, that features articles and updates on current issues in child health, the legislative arena, AAP activities, etc.
Who Can Join?
Membership in the Council is open to Fellows of the Academy with an interest in community pediatrics, and to Specialty Fellows certified in Preventive Medicine. Members of the Council may be elected to serve as Council Executive Committee members.

Affiliate membership is open to international pediatricians, licensed physicians, and allied health professionals not eligible for membership in the Academy. Affiliate members are not considered Academy members or "FAAPs" (Fellows of the American Academy of Pediatrics) and cannot vote or hold office in the Council, but their affiliation with the Council provides a wide range of benefits and opportunities to become involved in Council activities.

 

How to Join:
If you are already a member of the AAP and would like to become a COCP member, join online by:
1. Go to http://www.aap.org/moc/indexEntry.cfm and login with your AAP ID and password.
2. Click on "Member Community".
3. Click on "Join a Section or Council" under Section, Council & Committee
Information.
4. Choose "Council on Community Pediatrics", answer a few questions, and click "Submit".
