2009 Local Heroes Award Recipient
Angel Mendoza, Jr, MD, FAAP

Angel Mendoza, Jr, MD, FAAP was born and raised in the Philippines where his experiences solidified his passion for the care of underserved populations. After 10 years as a community pediatrician in Georgia, he eventually became medical director for two metro Atlanta counties. In 2005, Dr. Mendoza moved to New York City to become the Chief Medical Officer of the NYC Early Intervention Program. In 2006, he became an Assistant Commissioner and Medical Director for NYC’s Child Welfare system where he oversees programs, services and policy development for NYC’s most vulnerable children. He continues to see patients at his developmental clinic.
