SECTION ON SENIOR MEMBERS
AMERICAN ACADEMY OF PEDIATRICS

The Section on Senior Members, founded in 1994, is open to all Fellows of the Academy 55 years of age and older. The Section currently has over 700 members. The mission of the Section is to:

· Create opportunities for the members to remain involved with the AAP in a meaningful way

· Foster the growth and development of younger members through effective mentorship

· Provide experience and resources that will support our members as they make transitions in their personal and professional lives.

The Section has the following objectives:

1. Each chapter will be contacted to determine options for Senior Section involvement.

2. Establish partnerships and produce joint programs with at least one other organization helping seniors.

3. An annual plan for conducting needs assessment will be developed and implemented.

4. Increase Senior Bulletin to 4 issues per year.

5. The Senior Section will work with the AAP to develop meaningful collaborations with AARP and General United.

6. Develop and implement a promotional plan for section programs at the Annual Meeting.

7. Increase Annual Meeting attendance to 200.

8. The section will support at least one senior to attend the legislative conference/state conference.

9. At least 50 senior members will be actively involved in advocacy issues.

10. Achieve 10% increase in membership, and maintain 95%+ retention.

11. A mentorship program will be established in collaboration with the Resident Section and the Medical Student Program

In achieving these objectives, the Section will enhance the AAP's efforts to serve children and their families.

The Section holds educational programming, a section business meeting and a social reception following the program at the National Conference and Exhibition of the AAP.
