The Section on Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, founded in 1977, is dedicated to improving the care of infants, children, adolescents, and young adults by providing an educational forum for the discussion of problems and treatments related to otolaryngology-head and neck surgery in children.
The Section is governed by an executive committee consisting of seven section members including a section chairperson and chair-elect. The Section executive committee meets at the AAP National Conference & Exhibition (NCE) which is held in the fall and at ASPO in the Spring. The Section has a business meeting, educational program, and banquet at the NCE as well. The Section proposes educational topics for seminars and plenary sessions that would be of interest to the general pediatrician. The Section acts as an expert resource to the AAP by providing assistance to policy-creating bodies. Section members review policy statements, brochures, and other AAP publications related to otolaryngologic problems in children. Membership in the Section is open to physicians boarded by the American Board of Otolaryngology who devote 75% of their practice to the care of infants, children, adolescents and young adults under the age of 21.
