The
Section on Neurological Surgery has been specifically created
to address the issues common to pediatric neurosurgery: patient
management, continuing education, clinical research, and interaction
with the members of the American Academy of Pediatrics, in an
effort to improve the care of infants, children, adolescents and
young adults with neurosurgical disorders.
The
Section focuses on interdisciplinary educational activities and
development of joint programs that would benefit, not only the
Section members, but the primary care pediatrician as well. The
Section is actively involved in assisting the American Academy
of Pediatrics in developing practice parameters and position papers
on issues related to the child with a neurosurgical disease.
Membership
in the Section is open to physicians boarded in Neurological Surgery
by the American Board of Neurological Surgery and/or the Royal
College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, who devote 75% of
their practice to the care of infants, children, adolescents and
young adults through age 21.
The
members of this Section will benefit in the interactive process
with the American Academy of Pediatrics not only from the educational
standpoint but also from practice development.
