The Section on Cardiology and Cardiac
Surgery programs at the AAP National Conference and Exhibition provide
a forum for the discussion of clinical or basic science research
related to cardiovascular disease in children. Participation is
open to pediatric cardiologists and cardiovascular surgeons and residents/fellows-in-training,
and other physicians, residents and post-doctoral students-in-training
whose project is relevant to pediatric cardiology. Submissions by
AAP members and non-members are welcome. Abstracts will be published.
The Section will present two Young
Investigator Awards. There will be $400 (first place) and $250 (second
place) awarded for best content and presentation of clinical and/or
basic science research. The Education Travel Grant, which provides funding
for travel expenses to the AAP annual meeting in Washington, DC, will be awarded to the top Young Investigator submission.
Current residents, fellows-in-training or other physicians-in-training
who have completed their fellowship training program within one
year (and whose project is relevant to pediatric cardiology) are
eligible for the Young Investigator competition. Education Travel
Grants are limited to current pediatric cardiology or cardiovascular
surgery fellows-in-training.
New for this year: Posters will be accepted as well.
Please Note: A completed manuscript of the Cardiology & Cardiac Surgery Young Investigator abstract presentation must be submitted by the time of the presentation in October. Manuscripts are required for review purposes but may be published in Congenital Heart Disease journal (Blackwell) using an expedited review process."
