New! Effects of Early Nutritional Interventions on the Development of Atopic Disease in Infants and Children: The Role of Maternal Dietary Restriction, Breastfeeding, Timing of Introduction of Complementary Foods, and Hydrolyzed Formulas
This is a new clinical report, published in the January 2008 issue of Pediatrics, highlights recent studies and meta-analyses to provide a review of data supporting certain intervention (e.g., breastfeeding, use of particular infant formulas) while also presenting the limited evidence concerning additional dietary interventions (such as maternal diet or avoidance of particular solid foods).

A Clinical Report entitled "Self-injectable Epinephrine for First-Aid Management of Anaphylaxis in Children," was published in the March 2007 issue of Pediatrics. This report provides guidelines on when to prescribe self-injectable epinephrine, how to decide upon dosing, and when the medication should be administered. The report provides a rationale for increasing the self-injection dose to 0.3 mg at about 55 lbs to avoid significant underdosing.

Pediatric Asthma Speakers Kit
In partnership with the US Environmental Protection Agency, the Section developed a pediatric asthma speakers kit covering topics such as pathophysiology, diagnosis, pharmacotherapy and non-pharmacologic treatment, asthma in schools, and management aids. Handouts for both physicians and children/families and slide notes are downloadable from this Web site.
