The Tomorrow's Children Endowment was created to ensure financial support to confront the challenges that children, pediatricians, medical subspecialists, and surgical specialists will face in the future. The Endowment complements and differs from the Friends of Children Fund, which is designed to address immediate needs through an annual campaign.

The Tomorrow's Children Endowment income will enhance the ability of the AAP to carry out research, education, advocacy, and community service programs and initiatives that advance pediatrics. The Endowment will provide resources above and beyond operating revenues and resources that will provide the flexibility to address emerging issues.

With your support, the AAP can be more effective in changing public policy, influencing research priorities, and disseminating education globally. Leonard Apt Endowment • Established 2003
Section on Ophthalmology
Established to honor Leonard Apt, MD, FAAP for his outstanding contributions in both pediatrics and pediatric ophthalmology. Dr. Apt is well known to the AAP for his work on distinguishing fetal from maternal hemoglobin and to the pediatric ophthalmology community for being the first fellowship trained pediatric ophthalmologist in the United States. Dr. Apt is also credited with helping to establish pediatric ophthalmology as a new subspecialty in medicine. This endowment supports the Leonard Apt Lectureship first given in 2000.

Ogden Bruton Endowment • Established 1969
Section on Uniformed Services
Established to honor Odgen C. Bruton, MD, FAAP, who discovered the immunodeficiency disease bearing his name and organizer of the first pediatric residency program at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. For all those who knew him, "The patient is first, and last, always." This endowment provides an honorarium and a plaque to a prominent speaker for the AAP National Conference & Exhibition to be selected by the Section's program committee.

L. Joseph Butterfield Endowment • Established 1998
Section on Perinatal Pediatrics
Established to honor L. Joseph Butterfield, MD, FAAP for his contributions to the field of Perinatal medicine, the AAP, the Section on Perinatal Pediatrics and especially his role in the establishment and success of the Annual Perinatal Workshop. This endowment recognizes a speaker with a national or international reputation who can address issues related to the practice of neonatal medicine. (The Butterfield Lectureship is supported by an endowment from Ross Products Division Abbott Laboratories, Inc)

Ken Graff Endowment • Established 1998
Section on Emergency Medicine
Established to honor Ken Graff, MD, a talented young pediatric emergency medicine physician and investigator, who died as a result of a tragic wilderness skiing accident in 1995. His professional accomplishments included receiving the 1994 AAP Willis Wingert Award for outstanding research on the sedation of children with orthopedic injuries and an EMS-C grant for the study of sedation and analgesia. The Ken Graff Young Investigator Award supports young investigators in their pursuit of quality pediatric emergency medicine research.

John Lattimer Endowment • Established 1979
Section on Urology
Established to honor John Lattimer, MD
The endowment supports a guest lectureship held during the Section on Urology's educational program during the AAP National Conference & Exhibition.

Bret Ratner Endowment • Established 1961
Section on Allergy and Immunology
Established to honor Bret Ratner, MD
The award recognizes an outstanding pediatric allergist-immunologist for contributions in basic clinical research in the field of allergy and immunology.

Dale Richmond Endowment • Established 2002
Section on Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics
Established to honor Dale Richmond
The Dale Richmond Award established in 1973 recognizes achievement by a non-physician educator in the field of child development. This award is generally presented at the AAP National Conference & Exhibition. The Dale Richmond Endowment was established in 2002 thanks to matching funds from the Foundation for Child Development in honor of Dr. Julius Richmond, former Surgeon General of the United States and father of the Head Start program.

Leonard Rome Endowment • Established in 1994
Community Pediatrics
The purpose of the Rome Community Access to Child Health (CATCH) Visiting Professorships in Community Pediatrics program is to promote advocacy for children and advance the field of community pediatrics. The program provides four accredited pediatric residency programs support to fund a two or three-day educational program focusing on the field of community pediatrics. Renamed in 1997 to honor Leonard P. Rome, MD, a pediatrician and tireless child health advocate, who dedicated his life to improving children's health. Dr Rome's life exemplified the vision of the CATCH Program: that every child in every community has a Medical Home and other needed services to reach optimal health and well being.

Jens Rosenkrantz Endowment • Established 1986
Section on Surgery
Established to honor Jens Rosenkrantz, MD, FAAP who was a long-standing member of the AAP and a past Chair of the Section on Surgery. He was a very well-known and respected academician and clinical surgeon who spent most of his professional career teaching pediatric surgical residents and promoting the importance of post-graduate education and research. The endowment supports the Section on Surgery's Annual Resident Awards.
