AAP Supports Health Care Reform
As the United States Congress continues to work through health reform legislation, the American Academy of Pediatrics believes that there has never been a more important time to advocate for the health needs of our nation's children.
AAP supports health reform, and urges a health care system that includes insurance for all children with the following provisions:
- Child-specific benefits
- Default enrollment/choice for parents and caregivers
- Affordable premiums and cost-sharing
- Medical homes for all
- Appropriate payment health care reform
AAP supports the House of Representatives' health reform bill, Affordable Health Care for America Act (HR 3962). While AAP has not endorsed any specific piece of legislation, AAP supports many of HR 3962's provisions for children, and will continue to work with Congress in the hopes that the best provisions for children and pediatricians are included in final health care reform legislation.
