COMMITTEE ON STATE GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS The Committee on State Government Affairs (COSGA) provides guidance to AAP chapters with their advocacy work with state legislatures, governors, agencies and courts. COSGA also works closely with AAP committees, sections, task forces and the Board of Directors to analyze state issues and provide strategies for addressing them by working with state chapters. To accomplish this consultative work, COSGA focuses on issue analysis and strategy development by means of knowledge of current state political and fiscal climates, regular communication and consultation with AAP chapters, the development of advocacy tools such as issue briefs, strategy suggestions, and Internet-based resources. Issues currently being addressed include access to care (especially Medicaid and SCHIP), quality of care, reimbursement, child injury and violence prevention, promotion of routine childhood immunization and other preventive health measures, child abuse and neglect prevention, substance abuse prevention, and pediatric practice and workforce issues. COSGA conducts the biennial Chapter Advocacy Summit to further enhance networking and development of chapter advocates and staff.
